CIVIL LAW

King’s Bench Chamber’s civil group provides an established team of dedicated barristers who offer a broad range of experience and depth in civil matters.
Our approach is to become an integral part of the client’s legal team. We have built and developed strong working relationships with our solicitors, who regularly instruct members to advise and appear at every stage of litigation. In addition to solicitors we receive instructions from other professionals via licensed access.
Traditionally the majority of our instructions originate from the south west. As the civil group has grown and developed, we have seen a dramatic increase of instructions for insurer client work from leading solicitors based all over the UK. These include Zurich, Royal Sun Alliance, Norwich Union and Post Office Insurance.
We offer the following advantages:
  •         Being based in the heart of the West Country, allows for convenient access to courts from Penzance to  Bristol    with a corresponding saving in Counsel’s travel costs;
  •          a broad range of available junior barristers;
  •          a keen awareness of the cost pressures upon those who fund commoditised civil litigation; and
  •          an attentive and efficient practice management/clerking team.

It is our fundamental objective to provide as good a service as the best local or London based alternatives and to do so at a more economic rate.

Members of the civil group practise in the following fields:

  •          Personal injury work
  •          Property litigation
  •          Probate and Wills
  •          Local Government work
  •          Commercial litigation
  •          Employment law
  •          Professional negligence
  •          Insolvency
  •         Contract
Following extensive investment King’s Bench Chambers offers dedicated conference suites and seminar facilities. The next scheduled seminar will be during September 2009 (on civil procedure updates). Further details will be available in due course.

FAMILY LAW [top]

Chambers has a strong and highly experienced family group offering a wide range and depth of experience in all family matters. We are committed to offering a full service to our solicitors and have members of the family group whose practice focuses almost exclusively on public law matters, ancillary relief and property disputes, private law Children Act cases and all forms of injunctive relief.

The family group encompasses all levels of experience and expertise representing parents, guardians and local authorities at every level of Court. Members regularly appear in the most complex cases, some involving disputed medical evidence or jurisdictional issues as well as those matters that are dealt with by the Family Proceedings Court. Most members have experience of representing clients under a disability. The ancillary relief team is increasingly instructed on related property disputes (particularly since the Civil Partnership Act), Trusts of Land Act applications, Inheritance Act claims and Children Act applications for financial relief, as well as the more usual matrimonial disputes.

All members of the family group accept both private and publicly funded clients and constantly strive to work in collaboration and partnership with both our professional and lay clients.

Please see the individual profiles of each of our members of the family group or contact our clerking team for further information.
