Practice Profile
Claire attended the University of Liverpool and attained an Upper Second Class Law Degree. After completing the Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School (Very Competent) she completed a 12 month pupillage at King’s Bench Chambers and became a tenant in 2004.
At both undergraduate and postgraduate level, Claire specialised in family law (child law and matrimonial law) which she now continues in her practice at the Bar.
Prior to specialising in family work Claire also had a varied criminal practice, prosecuting and defending in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts. She had several cases that went to the Court of Appeal.
Claire practises in all areas of family law and has a wide and varied practise. She appears at all Court levels. She also undertakes a variety of civil work and has a particular interest in employment law cases.
Claire is a member of the Family Law Bar Association and Employment Law Bar Association.
She accepts publicly funded work in all areas of her practice.
Experience
Claire represents and advises clients in the following areas:
Family Law
All ancillary relief applications and Schedule 1 Children Act applications. Private and Public Law proceedings – representing Parents, Children’s Guardians and Local Authorities. Non-molestation and occupation order applications;
Tort Law
Negligence, Nuisance, Occupiers Liability, Defective Premises, Health and Safety at Work – all tracks;
Landlord and Tenant
Possession of property;
Tribunal work
Inquests and Employment Tribunals;
Other civil work undertaken
Boundary disputes, Easements including rights of way, Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 claims.
Cases of Note include:
R. –v- Drayton [2005] EWCA Crim 2013 – where guidance was given as to the correct drafting of the charge of arson
