Deni, called in 1996, has relocated to the South West after 12 years in chambers in Birmingham. His practice has an emphasis on criminal work, though general common law, family matters, employment, immigration, and regulatory matters are also undertaken.  Before coming to the Bar, Deni completed a biology degree and had worked as a biologist with an emphasis on marine matters. His scientific background is especially useful in cases involving complex forensic or scientific issues including Coroner’s inquests involving such conflicts.

Areas concerning environmental pollution or similar regulatory work are also of particular interest. Deni completed a postgraduate certificate in environmental law.

He undertakes all areas of serious criminal work both for prosecution and defence and is a grade 3 prosecutor. He has been noted for an easy manner with clients together with a calm unflappable approach to advocacy.

Alongside his criminal practice Deni has completed postgraduate studies in International law, particularly international criminal law, international law relating to the use of force in conflicts and the international law of the sea. He was a speaker at the international conference on the barbarisation of warfare organised by the Institute for Conflict Resolution, he dealt particularly with the application of the Geneva Conventions and Protocols in modern conflicts. He has also spoken on the law of piracy in the 21st century. Yacht charter companies and the RNLI have sought his advice in this area.
