Practice Profile

Gina Small practises primarily in family law, within which field, heavy duty care work and, as befits one whose initial specialism at the Bar was in insolvency, complex ancillary relief cases are particular strengths. While, in care work, representation of parents has tended to predominate - her reputation for thorough cross-examination and robust analysis of the evidence, making her a first choice for solicitors representing clients facing serious allegations - Gina is also instructed regularly on behalf of Guardians and Local Authorities.

She has represented clients in cases concerning international adoption, abduction, removal from the jurisdiction, serious sexual and physical harm, mental capacity, organised child abuse and wardship. She accepts instructions from the widest range of clients, both privately and publicly funded. Her experience in financial proceedings ranges from cases of high net worth to those involving ‘equalising the misery’ of significant indebtedness. Gina has retained her interest in insolvency work. She also regularly provides advocacy and legal training both ‘in house’ and to local firms.

Gina has the unusual distinction, for a member of the legal profession, of having drawn praise from Mark Harris, father's rights campaigner and author of 'Family Court Hell', who described the cross-examination of an expert witness in the following way: "I instructed Miss Small to expose [him] for what he was - a liar ... Gina Small did not disappoint and it was quite something to see take place in Court"
