Nigel joined King’s Bench Chambers in 2008, bringing his busy practice from Birmingham and the West Midlands with him. Nigel’s background includes general Common Law and regulatory matters as well as having experience in other areas of Civil Work. He is regularly instructed by large nationwide insurer clients to deal with fast and multi track claims but has specific interest in Policing Law.

Police law

Nigel has experience in conducting misconduct hearings as presenting officer. He also practises in areas of civil action involving proceeds of Crime, anti-social behaviour, sexual offences prevention orders and Firearms licensing. He has also appeared on behalf of Constabularies in a number of other spheres, including proceedings under the Police Property Act.

Before joined the Bar, Nigel spent 10 years working in Mental Health Care for the NHS. As a result he developed particular expertise in dealing with mentally disordered offenders and mental health defences, including defences in non-insane automatism. He also developed skills in dealing with vulnerable or challenging clients.

Tribunal Work

Nigel has particular experience of Inquests and Mental Health Review Tribunals.
