Kings Bench Chambers

Pupillage & Tenancy

Tenancies

Chambers has grown steadily from around 14 tenants in the mid-1980s to its present complement of 22.   Chambers continues to welcome applications from established and high-calibre practitioners who wish to practise within Chambers’ specialist groups. Applications, together with a detailed personal profile marked “Private & Confidential”, should be sent for the attention of Gina Small, Head of Chambers.

Pupillage

Chambers current policy is to offer at least one 12 month pupillage each year. Applications for first, second and third sixes will also be considered. We look to recruit pupils with impressive academic backgrounds and who can demonstrate their commitment to a career at the Bar on the Western Circuit. Pupils are recruited with a view to an offer of tenancy upon successful completion of their pupillage. Chambers has a good record of accepting pupils as tenants.

Pupillages usually commence in September with interviews taking place during the previous summer. Pupillages are organised to provide each pupil with a thorough grounding in all areas of criminal, family and civil law. Pupils are encouraged to spend some time with most if not all members of Chambers during their pupillage.

Chambers provides 12-month pupils with a grant of £6,000 for the first six months of pupillage, with guaranteed earnings of £6,000 in the second six months.

Chambers is a member of OLPAS (On-Line Pupillage Application Service) and adheres to its guidelines and timetables. Further information can be obtained through the OLPAS website www.pupillages.com.

Mini-pupillage

For law students or those trying to decide whether to pursue a career in the law, Chambers offers mini-pupillages, normally of a week's duration, throughout the year. Mini-pupillages are not financially assisted and applicants must be aged 18 or above.

Whilst mini-pupillages are not formally assessed, they will be taken into consideration if a subsequent application for pupillage is made.

If you wish to apply for a mini-pupillage please apply via email with a covering letter and detailed personal profile. All applications should be sent to thomas.challacombe@kingsbenchchambers.co.uk.
